No parent should ever have to plan a memorial service for their child. And yet, this is our life.
This week we’ve been working on plans for Alexander’s memorial service, which will take place on his three month anniversary in heaven, October 9, 2016. We met with our pastor yesterday and have begun the very difficult process of selecting scripture passages and songs and talking through the funeral liturgy. We’ve started planning for some special additions to the day, and talking through our hopes for a service and celebration that will honor Alexander Scott in the best way possible.
There are a lot of people grieving with us. Our village–Alexander’s village–is full of so many people. We hope that his memorial service will be an opportunity to honor Alexander, grieve for everything that will never be, and to celebrate that our dear boy is held in the arms of Jesus. And we hope more than anything that we can do all of that surrounded by the many family, friends, brothers and sisters in Christ, and so many other people who make up our family’s village.
So, please consider this an invitation to join us in honoring Alexander Scott and his brief time with us. Join us in celebrating the hope of the resurrection.
We will gather on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at 12:30pm at the Far Hills Campus of Epiphany Lutheran Church.
